So a friend of mine already has his BS in Neuroscience. He was thinking about applying to PharmD schools but is missing some of the pre-reqs (mostly all the goofy humanities/social sciences plus microbiology courses)..

He doesnt really want to go back to school to take these..Are pharmD schools very forgiving if you are missing some of the pre-reqs but you already have a BS degree?

In my experience, no. I already have my BS in Biology, and when I have contacted admissions offices, they still want me to take general psychology, speech, and crap like that, even though my school had GE requirements for speaking-intensive courses, and I took upper-division Neurobiology. You'd think these would cover intro psych and speech. But no. Furthermore, I have to re-take Microbiology, because the course I took was 200-level, and it has to be upper division. Completely ridiculous in my opinion - I wrote my senior thesis in Microbiology!!! It's frustrating not only because they make you jump through hoops, but also these courses are expensive, and some of us have full-time jobs that aren't supportive of our move toward Pharmacy, and thus night classes are the only option. Sorry, guess I needed to bitch...

i've had similar experiences. i also have a BS in biology and had to take the additional prereqs. i am taking english 101 a year after graduating because i got institutional credit for it way back when, so i had a Pass on my transcript and most of the schools said all courses must be for a letter grade. so it is definitely a pain in the ass but most schools are not forgiving about prereqs.

I had one school which told me I could apply for a waiver of speech class based on my work experience (approx. 60 formal presentations over a 7 year period). Unfortunately, they did not end up being my school of choice, so I am currently taking a speech class.

As far as I could tell, they really don't care if you have a BS, MS, whatever - if your prereqs don't match their particular list of required classes, then you have to go get them somehow.
