Just wondering what ya'll think:

I took the second semester of organic chemistry pass/no pass just for fun last spring. The only school I plan to apply to said that this is fine.

As it turns out, I have room for an extra class this coming spring (in fact, I'll need one to be full-time!). My question is, should I re-take ochem 2 for a grade (note that I only got a C+ in ochem 1) or should I branch out and take microbiology (which is NOT required at the vet school I'm applying to)?

I hope apps are going well for everyone 🙂

Micro knowledge will come in handy in vet school.

Also consider histology courses, physiology, reproduction, nutrition (I took nutritional biochemistry, and am SO glad I did), immunology, virology, parasitology, anatomy, etc.

So far, that's been the consensus among friends and advisors. I have very little microscope experience and I'm thinking I could pick some up in the lab. Thanks!

Microbiology is useful, as is a bit of scope experience. And, some vet schools require it, so if you change yer mind about where to apply you've got it in the bag.

All in all, I think you're better served with microbiology. Which, as it turns out, is way more interesting than orgo anyway. 🙂

I posted my response above and then saw this, and her advice is better than mine, so I'm amending my post. 🙂

That said, I'm glad I had microbiology before taking (in vet school) immunology or virology (and maybe parasitology, but I haven't taken that yet). Just something to consider. Not that you'd need microbiology to take them, but there was a fair bit of material from it that made those classes easier to jump into.
