If you do a fellowship instead of a residency, are you considered qualified for specialty clinical positions when you are done? For example 2 year ID fellowship vs PGY2 ID residency.

Most ID fellowships require a PGY1 residency. Fellowships are generally research based and PGY2's are more practice based. There was an article published about this saying for clinical positions, a PGY2 residency is the way to go.
 
In the past, ID fellow could secure a clinical job. I believe these days most ID fellows pursue industry route just because PGY2 residents get clinical jobs since they have more hospital experience.
