alternate list

Yes, I've had friends get in off alternate lists and other people who weren't friends as well. I know from other peoples experiences that NYU, Michigan and UOP took at least one person from alternate lists into the 2006 classes.

thanks for the reply, i really appreciate it. that is a really good piece of information to know. Good luck to you!

Does case or any other school really take anyone from the alternate list?

I personally know one person who got in off the wait list at maryland and another at UOP. From what I've heard, most schools end up taking at least one person off the wait list. Theres always people who for some reason decide not to go at the last minute or cant go for some reason, and there are others who accept at two schools and wait until late to decide which to attend. If you end up on a wait list there is still a chance you'll get in - it might be a small chance, but there is a chance.

If you end up on an alternate list, my suggestion is to keep in contact with that school and let them know you are still really interested. If they have an openning at the last minute, they will be looking to fill that spot quick and if they know you'll take it, you might be bumped to the top of the alternate list.

so does that mean most schools by dec 1 know who they want and everyone else later on are alternate? b/c most schools by dec 1 give out acceptance. do they keep a couple spots opened after dec 1?

A lot of schools haven't filled their class by Dec. 1. In fact, I bet almost none of them do. They might try and fill it by overaccepting, but many students they offer acceptances to will decline them. I was accepted to 4 schools Dec.1 2005 and I turned them all down. UCLA interviewed me in January and they said they still had about half their class still to fill. Tons of people get accepted all the way through March or April and then I think it kind of dies down. Many schools left me in limbo all the way to June, not telling me if I had been accepted or rejected, so you will have a good shot after december.

Thank God.... it seems like most schools give out acceptances by dec 1 and if you dont get accepted by then, then ur basically screwed. I just assumed that interviews ended march.

For how long do they keep the alternate list? Is it till the summer before matriculation?
