the interviews are relatively stress free...study up on the SDN intervivew posts and know why you want to be a doctor/DO.

For interview tips cruise the interview feedbacks here on SDN. Those can be helpful. Just remember to be yourself, energetic and happy during interviews. If DMU is where you really want to go or you don't yet have an acceptance than by all means interview for the alternate list.

Hey redneck,
are you still heading to DMU? If so...

Jbone,

Yup. I'm a sure deal as long as nothing awful rears its head between now and Aug. 7th (fingers crossed). You're still on board and haven't jumped ship have you?

Newdogirl,

What ever you do and whatever the outcome, let us know. Tip: Don't show up dead tired from travelling. Make sure you're rested.

I'm on the waitlist too for DMU. Hoping to get in. Probably going to waste $2k on an insurance policy at KCUMB though. Might be worth it in the end.

I wouldn't call it a waste.

Hate to say it, but I think it may be tough to get in off the wait list this year. Good luck! Hope to see you this fall!

There should definitely be movement on the waitlist, hopefully, because people are still accepting and withdrawing seats. Although DMU is a great school, I chose to stay in CA due to personal reasons. I just withdrew last week from the DMU class, so good luck to all who want to go there! I hope my seat helps someone:)

I am withdrawing as well.

so where are you going to go, if it's not too personal?

i think that i will probably end up at wvsom. it is a really great school and the people in the town are sooo nice. it is more expensive which is why i sort of wanted to check out dmu, but now i'm getting pumped about wv and so even though i'm still going to go on the interview to dmu it is going to be a hard sell for me to pick them over wv.

Does anyone know how many people are on the waitlist at DMU?

I think during my interview day they said they offer ~400 acceptances, not sure if that included wait list or not. Did anyone else hear this? I might be wrong.

In 2003 they offered 541 acceptances, 617 interviews and 201 were enrolled (88% acceptance rate after the interview). Most of these came from out-of-state (551 interviewed and 487 accepted, 161 enrolled).

I haven't heard of anyone being "rejected." I have talked to alot of people who interviewed and were waitlisted. I think it's a big waitlist, but I have no real idea.

Sorry for the late reply to your question...just saw it today. I'll be going to Western-COMP in the fall:)

good luck,
I'll be withdrawing from COMP today.

Eh...I didn't mean a WASTE...I just meant I was confident and positive about getting off the waitlist. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all who have decided to go to other schools. If you're on the DMU admissions board, please move me to the front of the line...everybody else..I hope to see you at DMU.

On a side note, I have looked at a lot of positives at KCUMB, systems based curriculum, DO/MBA in 4 years, easier to fly into...just need to pump myself up for 2 years in a not so great neighborhood and older buildings (guess you can look at it as it has history)

Anybody know if the waitlist starts opening up in early, mid-, late-may or is june really how long I have to wait? Does calling DMU for info and asking often about the waitlist, help or hurt me as to where I'm on the waitlist?

Does anybody feel that this is a totally unecessarily stressful process?

I have no idea what the alternate list looks like this year, but last year it consisted of about 100 students. You'll receive an email and letter telling you your position on the alternate list (top, middle, bottom) in mid-June, and they'll also tell you that you can wait up until orientation to see if there are any positions available. From what I understand, there is little to no movement off of this list, especially with all the new bells and whistles at DMU. I don't think that calling often would affect your position on the alternate list, but I'm sure that they might find it super annoying. Yes, this is stressful, but just hang in there and be thankful that you have an acceptance to another good school. Best of luck!

I just got an e-mail about wanting to stay on the waitlist. I'm hoping that's a good sign. Got into AZCOM and that is my priority right now since I turned down my seat at KCUMB. Still crossing my fingers for DMU. I will be ecstatic if I get in. Now it's just time to wait and hope...

In November I was placed on the waitlist at DMU. This Friday I was moved to alternate list. So, did I progress? Just curious. I informed them to take me off the pool as I am going through the admissions process at NSU. Anyway I prefer warm Florida my home state.

hrm....is there really no difference between the "waitlist" and the "alternate" list?...that is really odd...I've been on the "alternate" list since February and just assumed it was the same as the "waitlist". Are you sure your Nov e-mail/notification said "waitlist"?

Thanks for all of the advice but in the end I actually turned down my interview invite for dmu. I've gotten more and more enthusiastic about wvsom so hopefully my cancelling will give someone else a chance. Thanks again everyone

I withdrew from DMU to go to COMP. Hope it helps some DMU lover out there. Live on!

sweetness...thanks...

Anybody know what day in May the number of where you're on the waitlist will be? When are interviews over?

I withdrew my DMU acceptance yesterday. Good luck

thanks, if SDN'ers are only a fraction of those dropping acceptances to DMU I might have a decent chance...we'll see though..

Has anyone heard anything from DMU lately?

I just got an email saying that I've been put in the !!!!! quartile on the waitlist. :scared:

To all of you on the DMU waitlist . . . I am relinquishing my seat in the DO entering class at DMU today. I just received official notification that I was accepted off the University of Nebraska Medical Center waitlist!!!! I know how unnerving the waitlist waiting can be. Congratulations to the person that gets my spot!! ;)

I'm in the 2nd quartile does that mean at best I"m 32nd and worst 64th? Chances don't sounds good.

What quartile is the "!!!!! quartile"?

what is there like 220 at DMU? I figure almost 20% of the class at this point would have to decide to go somewhere else for me to get in. Or people on the waitlist, have changed their mind on where to go. Even AZCOM only had 29 get off the waitlist last year (145 students). I think it will be a miracle to get into DMU. If anybody from the 2nd quartile gets in, let me know so I can hopelessly get excited... (Okay I'm not that depressed. I guess I'm already going to sunny AZ which is exciting.)

I just found out that I was placed in the top quartile at DMU but I have been accepted to WVSOM and now am planning on attending there. So good luck to anyone who may move up a bit on the waitlist with me out of the way :)

Hope everyone gets in where they want!

Do you ever feel like you're in a casino and God is playing dice?

Siriceman,

I believe DMU usually shoots for 210 +/-. Before they ranked the waitlist, rumor is that there were already over 210 SEAT DEPOSITS. Now some of those may be 'insurance policies' but I would think that chances of getting down into the 2nd quartile are pretty slim. I hate to be a downer, but it sounds like you already have a pretty realistic view. Congrats on AZCOM & good luck next year.

Well it's been a week and a half. Anybody with any luck getting off or hear any new news? I hate calling, I feel like that makes my chances worse or at least not better. Anybody starting to cash in their backup plan? I'm getting plane tickets to AZ to find a place to live here soon.

I haven't heard anything yet iceman. I'm not sure how often they meet to review the admission status (probably every other week). I'm waiting just as anxiously as you though man. I'm giving them as long as I can before I have to resort to my backup plan. From one waitlister to another... I'll let you know if I hear anything.

What's your backup plan and where are you on the list?

Hello! I'm new to posting on SDN... I have received some official news on the DMU alternate list. Apparently last year they took only 14 people off the wait list. There were about 100 people on the list to begin with. The year before they only took 2 people form the wait list. Usually its more than that. They still don't know how many seats they'll have open. Next week there may be a meeting to decide about early admissions for the 2011 class.
