Does the Step 1 test (require you to know) alternative names for diseases (stated in a questions stem or as an answer choice)? For example, a Sertoli Leydig cell tumor is aka androblastoma, arrhenoblastoma.

YES!!! Great question. You have to know all of the alternate names!! Most high yield are in the vasculitis section; Temporal Arteritiis and Giant Cell Arteritis.

Also, boards are going away from Buzzwords. You will not see the word Auer Rods or Reed-Sternberg Cells in the stem because it is a dead give away. Instead, they will give you a picture of an Auer Rod, or describe Reed Sternberg cells in prose form. Ask anyone that took Step 1 on here, Buzzwords are slowly being phased out.

If QBank is any indication, you unfortunately DO need to know alternate names 🙁 I got some crazy question the other day that totally threw me off because the answer choices included things like "Sipple Syndrome" and "Werner's Syndrome" instead of MEN I and MEN II. (I think those are the right ones...I forget now...)

We could get a list going, I'll add one:

Stein-Leventhal= Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
