Does it make a big difference to have LOR's from DO's who are alumni at the school or schools that you are applying? I'm starting to line up some DO's to shadow and am curious.

Commom sense would lead you to think that an alumni's LOR would help. But I am begining to doubt that it even matters at all. My strongest LOR was from a D.O. who graduated from UNECOM. however, after applying to UNECOM, AZCOM, CCOM, UHSCOM, and DMU, the only school not to offer an interview was UNECOM. Go figure!?!

My letter was from a big alumni at one of the schools, and that was the first school that rejected me. So in my case the alumni letter didn't matter.

Hmm, ok, thanks for the input.

i would have to say, ABSOLUTELY!!! during my interview at the school i had an alumni write a rec to, the interviewers made several comments about the DO. just make sure the DO puts in the letter that "he/she would be a great student at OUR institution, and maybe have them write their graduation year." i doubt the ad com reviews all LOR's to see if one came from an alumni. have them bring it to their attention.

Good suggestion, thanks.

I always wonderd how they knew your LOR was from one of their alums. Unless they are a big name or say so in the letter I would guess that school do not know.
