I am a second yr dental student who is looking to go into a residency program when I graduate. I really want to do Dental Anesthesiology but don't know where I stand in terms of average GPA etc. I also was looking into AEGD or GPR as an alternative but cannot seem to find any information on those residencies either. My GPA is a 3.1-3.2 and I have gotten 2 C's in the last 5 quarters which makes me feel as though I don't stand a chance. If anyone has information or some guidance, I would really appreciate it. 👍

Can't comment on anesthesiology, but you're definitely in the game for AEGD/GPR. To get into a good program (and improve your changes in anesthesiology)..

-Get better grades (sounds obvious, but upward trend is always viewed favorably)
-Get solid LORs..really get to know your faculty. I think these are terribly underrated and I know they helped me match into my program of choice.

Are the boards still going to be pass/fail in January?

If so consider studying your butt off and taking part 1 at the end of December. If you score well enough you'll have a better chance, especially since a lot of people your year will just have a 'pass'.

Of course if you score poorly that won't help, so you have to decide what your best option is.
