Chances at Ortho Residency

Hi Everyone!

I am curious what you all think about my chances are in applying to Orthodontic Residency this upcoming cycle. I received a 153 V and 156 Q and 5 on Writing on the GRE. My class rank is within the top 10% of my class and I currently have a few research projects, but have no publications. What do you think my chances at matching to a program are? And what is some advice you all can give about what improvements to my application I can make before applying this summer. Thank you!

If you apply broadly (20-30 schools) you should probably get in somewhere, just spend your time with orthodontists or ortho residents as much as possible between then and now so you can sound educated about the topic in interviews.

I'm applying this year as well so I don't know much more about it than you, if anything, but my best friend got in last year with similar stats to yours with a GRE <300 overall and a 4.5 in writing. In her experience, no one really valued the GRE. But I'm in the boat you're in where i I scored a 152V and 155Q and I am leaning towards retaking it because my class rank is in the top 10%, but it's lower than my friend's was.

I wouldn't retake it. Just spend as much time with the ortho residents at your program if you can (if there is one at your school). Just ask if you can come shadow. Tell them you want to apply to ortho. Just work on acquiring as much info about orthodontics as you can so you sound educated about it in your interviews.
