Dork :scared:

that was my fav. class. What stuff have you covered so far for the first test?

Oh also, kind of related to this, at UCI you can take Physiology and you don't need Anatomy first. In fact, Physiology is required for your BS in biology but Anatomy is not. I ended up taking Anatomy this spring at a JC and my teacher couldn't believe that schools teach physiology without the students taking anatomy first. Did anyone else attend a school with the same policy as uci?

My BS is in Zoology, so neither was required although I did take Human Anatomy. Either Anatomy or Physiology is a pre-req for OUHSC but I was strongly advised by the school to take Physiology since my Anatomy grade was 6 years prior and the first semester of Pharmacy school has a Physiology class.

We just started last week, still doing basic crap. But I was excited to take this class, which is part of why I took it even though I didnt need to.

The school Im taking it at doesnt require Anatomy as a prereq.

yeah i have been a pretty big geek in my day but I have never really looked forward to taking a test.

more like looking forward to being through with a test

But sometimes when you actually start taking the test it's kinda fun if you know every answer 🙂

I must agree with TroganAnteater--the only time it was "fun" to take a test was when I knew the answers.

I believe we just might have to categorize you as a "dorK" but that's okay--there are worse things to be in this world 🙂 Anyhow, good luck on your test tomorrow 👍 :luck:

I loved Physiology too! What a great class if you have a great teacher. There was no pre req of Anatomy at my school for Physiology only Bio 101. However, most people took Anatomy before Physiology in my class. I took Anatomy after and Physiology helped me a lot.

Good Luck! :luck:

true. i love the feeling when you are first to leave the room from a test and know you have aced it. That comes every so often when you really know the material and have had a good nights sleep.

its such a good feeling to see all the work channeled out into something tangible.

so what do you do in just anatomy? is all the time spent on learning the muscles, bones, organ names ?

in my anatomy class we left the muscles, bones and microscopic anatomy (looking at all kinds of tissues) to the lab portion. The lecture portion we went did a lot of learning about tissues, bone formation, blood vessels, lympatic/immune system etc.

At Butler Anatomy is a pre-requisite for physiology. Human Physiology was my favorite class as well. My professor told me I shouldn't do Pharmacy school and that instead I should go for my Ph.D. in Human Physiology/Biochem/Pharmacology. I'm just wondering if other people are like me. When you are taking a human physiology, or any other test for that matter, do you read the question and then immediately look for the answer that came to your hear prior to reading the choices? That's what I do/have done and I'm just wondering if others do it as well.

I started Bio my Jr. year and that was the first year they did away with multiple choice tests. I guess there were complaints from medical schools that multiple choice tests don't help students prepare as well so they changed them all to fill in the blank and short answer/essay questions. I'm glad they did it anyway, because our practice exams would be old multiple choice tests and I always felt like I did a little worse on those.

At Loyola, neither are required for the BS in Biology. To get credit for the major, I had to take the physiology and anatomy separate instead of the two semester course. However, physiology is offered in the fall only and anatomy is offered in the spring only. 😕

I smell dork in the air.

👍

actually i wouldn't really call you a dork

to me a dork is a person who wears funny clothes and is kinda dopey

I think you are a geek.

A geek is someone who is smart and likes to learn and do well in school. geeks also have odd hobbies that the average person would find stupid

a nerd is someone who is smartish but mainly socially awkward

at least that is how i see it.

LOL

Well, I do have some strange hobbies.

Geek it is then. 😀

Yes, Anatomy at my school was taught via the dissection of the cat (among other things). Not only the names of bones, origins and insertions of muscles and organ names, but all other systems and tissue histology. It was dry, but useful. Physiology was much more exciting and stimulating. 🙂

I have a somewhat different background in anatomy and physiology. I was originally going to go for vet school so i took an animal anatomy and physiology course that attempted to go through the whole shebang in one semester.

we used the classic human anatomy text by elaine marieb but placed an animal emphasis on it via power point slides. The guy who taught it was a dairy cow researcher so he talked a lot about udders.

So when i started researching pharmacy school i was told i would have to take human anat and phys II to complemenet the animal course. I took the course this past spring. A lot of it was a bit of a repeat from animal anatomy but in animal anatomy we never covered the digestive system or the repro system (Because there were specific animal science courses for this).

so i know the parts of a horse skull and a cow's rather than a human. Same with teh whole skeletal system.

It was cool though because we got to dissect whole sheep!

I have dissected the following things

sheep
freshly killed chickens
cats (Twice in my life)
fetal pigs
rats
minks (we used these to learn the muscles in animal anat and phys)
sheep hearts
sheep eye
sheep brain
cow repro tract

and thats not counting the slimy variety of non mammals like squid, sharks, starfish etc.

i really enjoy dissecting i think
