Ok, I now know the answer to what I wanted to find out. Thank you.
rcd said:ok, i'm a freshman and this is my first semester in college.
might as well start out with why i don't think i'm a gunner:
-i purposedly sit in the middle - back of all of my classes because i don't like being near the professor and it's often easier to see the projections (for me anyway)
-i'm a freshman and all freshman are kind of like gunner n00bs
ok now for why i might be one:
-in genetics, i did ALL of the practice problems (60 maybe in total) and even made a 3 page long word document that contained the definitions of the tons of key terms we were told may be on the test. i also went over each of the 7 essays. and then i only got a 93% on the test. i think that's a low A+/high A (top 25% of A's get A+'s, the A's were 78-98%)
-in intro to psychology i read the book, even though everyone (but the professor) said nothing of the test was on the book. and even then, i only scored a 19/20.
-in intro to ethics i am constantly contributing to the class, and am often the only person paying attention. in the 30-person class, there was a bell-curve, which was established before he finished grading. one of the 6 papers he didn't have graded by the time he established the bell curve was mine, and i scored a 95%, which was the highest in the class. i got the essay back monday (today is wednesday) and still like looking at it and getting a good feeling inside.

Yeah, you just enjoy your classes. And you're doing this for your own benefit, not just so you can Beat People or so you can Raise Your Numbers.ifailedmcat said:You sound more like a superstar. Gunners intentionally want people to fail so they can look better and succeed.

roja said:You seem to have divided your repliers into two camps.
The real question is, why are you asking? Are you looking for an egostroke? Or are you concerned that you will become a 'pre-med leper?'
rcd said:my classes:
intro to ethics, genetics, classical mythology, intro to psych
I'm not looking for an egostroke, I feed my own ego well enough 😀.
More concerned about whether I'm becomming a 'pre-med leper.' I'm afraid of both burning out and being the type of dork that pissing people off. I mean, I'm working my ass off for these grades, in the classroom and out.
I guess there's a fine line with regards to the pissing people off thing, and I'm on the wrong side of it with this post. But I'm starting to think that too many of the people in the pissed-off-you're-wanting-an-egostroke camp are just unwilling to give me the benefit of the doubt, psuedo-McCarthyism style. And so it's ok for me to take their input with a grain of salt.
phleebie said:gunners are weak-minded and possess no inkling of self-confidence. their insecurity causes them to find ways of reinforcing a (most-likely) average intelligence by putting their peers down. like i've read before countless times, the truly gifted work hard, perform well, and do what they can to help others. as for me, im neither the former nor the latter - just your average farm boy from ks who wants to be a doctor.

ifailedmcat said:No, you're a troll.
willthatsall said:I think I'm a gunner and I didn't even know what a gunner was until this year and I'm a junior now. It looks like you have a head start. I don't think I'm a full blown gunner though, so that might explain it.
RaiderNation said:A gunner is a guy who pisses in your solution in chem lab to not only screw you, but to boost his grade as well.
guys i have a question for you,
i sit in the front row and ask a lot of questions (even if they arent that necessary). in one class i got an A instead of an A+ but thankfully I still have a 4.0gpa after three years of college. also, during ochem lab I mixed 10M HCl in one kids drinking water because he scored a 100% on the test just like me, and I coulndt stand having a person as good as me. Would you consider me a "gunner"?
Im pretty sure im not but I just wanted to make sure with you guys. Thank you.
i care, for one. and it's my post. so that should be obvious
it's not like you can post on this forum and not have an idea of what a gunner is, it's talked about so often.
what i was trying to do is see if i fit that rough profile, and the way i came up with doing that is getting others' ideas.
Hi guys, here goes nothing 🙂
