Hey Everybody, just wondering if I could get an opinion of how strong of an applicant I will be for applying to dental school in about 5 months. I'm trying to figure out what I could improve on or how competitive I will be when I apply. I appreciate the help.

Biology Major at a midwest state school.
Overall GPA with 84 credits right now (not including this semester) 4.00
This semester I am taking 13 credits and am going to start studying for the DAT when I take it in the summer. In the summer, I am also going to take at least 1 class.

Shadowing I have over 100 hours and will be close to 150 when I apply. I have shadowed several General Dentists as well as an Oral Surgeon and a Orthodontist.
Community service: Probably about 300. A lot with church volunteering/activities as well as coaching youth 3-on-3 basketball.
Job Experience: Working for my Dad since high school so a lot of hours there as well as most weekends, Retail job, and working for myself doing people's yard work in the summer.
No research.

These are a few schools I'm going to apply to:
Marquette
Iowa
Nebraska
Creighton
Midwestern-IL
Midwestern-AZ
Minnesota
Colorado
Roseman
UNLV
Boston
Tufts
NYU
UNE
USC
LECOM

Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how strong of an applicant I am or how I should improve.

Thanks!

stellar GPA but we need a DAT score to assess chances

Work hard and do well on the DAT and I'd say you'd be a very competitive applicant. Good luck!

I am confused as to why people ask for advice when they have yet to take the DAT. But yes, as of now, you're a strong applicant. You should be able to deduce that much on your own... considering a 4.0 is perfect.

Exactly! It's like saying I shoot 100% free throws in basketball, so am I ready for the NBA?

Yeah, except as of now he's doing it from a wheelchair. Need to see DAT scores to assess dunking ability.
