So I'm an Ohio resident with a 3.8 sGPA and a 3.7 cGPA, I'm taking the MCAT July 6th and am expecting to get somewhere between a 28 and 30... I plan on applying to all ohio schools except Case. Other than that I'm looking for a reasonably priced (below 40,000?) school that I have a decent chance of getting into (aka easy on OOSers). This is my list right now, any suggestions of other schools or warnings of the schools listed would be greatly appreciated!

In no specific order:
U of Kansas
Loyola
U of Utah
Arkansas
Loma Linda
South Alabama
U of Nevada
Marshall
MC of Georgia
MC Wisconsin
Oregon Health and Science U
U of Miami
U of ND

Yeah what do you guys think about these schools? Any other that should be on my list? Thanks for the help!

I'm surprised this was moved but what about Wayne state or Oakland university in Michigan? I've heard they are friendly (I'm not 100% sure) . Central Michigan university will be accepting applications for its first class. Worth a shot right?

Kansas only accepts about 2% of their OOS applicants. I believe Utah and Nevada are similar and emphasize having strong ties to the state for OOS applicants. I would venture a guess that Arkansas and South Alabama are also IS heavy, but I don't actually know. For Loma Linda, consider if you fit with the 7th Day Adventist mission of the school and if you would want to go there if you are accepted. I would focus mostly on private schools. Look into Albany, Creighton, Drexel, NYMC, Oakland, Rosalind Franklin, Saint Louis, and Wake Forest and see if you would be a good fit with any of those schools.

Overall, outside of schools in Ohio, every school will be expensive. Even public schools that have a low IS tuition often have an OOS tuition that is much higher. For example, I was accepted to Toledo where the base tuition is about 30k. However, they have a 15k/semester surcharge for OOS students, so the actual tuition for OOS is 60k. I know Univ. of Colorado is similar, with relatively low IS tuition and a huge OOS tuition. Private schools will generally be about 50k for tuition, so no cheap options outside of your home state.

The short answer is no, you're not. Every school I bolded, except for Loma Linda, is considered OOS-unfriendly or your projected stats will be too low to get you any attention as an OOS applicant. Most of these schools are focused on producing docs for their state, and if you have no ties or compelling reason for them to think that you'll hang around after graduating you don't have a shot. Focus on finding schools you can get into and then if you end up with a choice you can opt for the cheaper school. You should probably chuck your whole list and start over from the ground up. Check out this post from Catalystik for guidance: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showpost.php?p=12603597&postcount=2

Edit: Since you're from a neighboring state, you might have a slightly higher chance at Marshall than you would otherwise, but there's still a huge WV bias in interview invites.

Thanks guys! I really thought I had it narrowed down to some decent options... but I'll spend some time looking closer and get back to you!

Definitely cut out South Alabama, very limited on OOS spots.
