If I submit at the tail-end of August/start of September, will I be late? I have pretty good stats...3.65/3.43/35 MCAT, and I applying to PCOM, CCOM, UNECom, Nova, KCUMB, Touro-NY, and a few others.

My issue is that I have not gotten a DO letter yet. The DO I shadowed for ~100 hours has yet to write my letter. I sent her the material she requested in mid-June and didn't see her again until the final time I shadowed her in the first week of July. I remember her saying something to the effect of "I got your materials, but I haven't gotten a chance to write it yet." A month later, I still haven't gotten it. Do you think I should send her an email, or should I wait a couple more weeks? She's extremely busy, but I know she's willing to write the letter. Also, somehow I forgot to send her a thank you note for letting me shadow her. Would sending a thank you letter now (3-4 weeks after shadowing) reflect really poorly on me? I feel kind of sick about it, to be honest.

With those stats you're competitive for MD as well. I wouldn't worry too much about the DO letter...while it certainly shows you've gone the extra mile, your stats (especially the MCAT) more than make up for it.

Send her a polite email reminding her about it. If you want to be subtle, send her the interfolio request and email her saying that you sent and she can submit it when its ready. I would personally got for the former option, but I have done the latter (might take her longer)

Is it too late four weeks later to send a thank you card? I can't believe I forgot to send one.

Maybe send her a thank you just saying thank you for writing this letter for me, it really means a lot as does you allowing me to shadow you. I will keep you updated on my application. I don't think it's extremely inappropriate to say "If at all possible, I would like the letter to be in by x date to try and maximize my application's strength"

The short answer: no. You're not considered late until after November, and even then you can still get in.
