Am I Considered Disadvantaged?

What is considered disadvantaged applicant? and Do I want to be considered?

I Grew Up Single Mom, my mom made probably less than 10,000 year (min wage jobs) We were on food stamps and all that other federal aid stuff, and yes I worked and contributed to house bills starting at 15 years old. Yes I started working before I was 18 and I paid for my own college in addition to what grants did not pay. Not sure how to answer this, my family is fine now, My sister is a Lawyer, and my other sister is an Executive at a bank, and I own a company now and hopefully going to be a Dentist in 4years lol Not sure if I what Im considered, any help or online resources links would be appreciated.

I had a hard time deciding whether or not to claim disadvantaged status, I didn't want the ADCOMs to think I was feeling sorry for myself. If you decide to do it, my advice would be to embellish a little, make it sound worse than it was without being dishonest (and if you want to lie, there is no way they can dispute it so more power to you). The reason I say this is, the last thing you want is to be the app that is read following that by the kid who was the only one in his village to escape genocide, ran across an entire desert barefoot and caught a ride to the states in a container. But the truth is, the VAST majority of applicants didn't have to struggle (find themselves at a disadvantage) growing up like you did, and you got to the same place they did. Good stuff partner.
