Hello all, I was a former business major who turned into a Dr.wanna be (MD/DO) before i was introduced to the field of pharmacy. I shadowed a pharmacist for the first time in my life a few weeks ago and I was amazed at what a great career it is. I was able to do it a couple more times and I found it fascinating.

I only have one problem and this is why i am here. I intend to take the pcats in june and hopefully apply early decision to University of Maryland pharmacy (i am a Maryland resident).
I started off college as a business major and thus have taken low course loads (13 credits) each of my first 3 semesters. I have taken some science classes (microbio, chem 1, calc 1-2, bio 3) I got AP credit for biology(5) as well. I have also taken 6 credits one summer, and 8 credits another.
In the spring of 07 I am taking physics 1, orgo 1, genetics, honors seminar class, and a university class for a total of 16 credits.

I am wondering if because of my low courseload if I will be seen as a competative applicant? If not how can I be more competative? I want to get in when I apply the first time, but I dont mind actually earning my bachelors and applying for the second time later. I would rather get in on the first try though (wouldnt we all:laugh: ).
Anyone have any advice for me?😕

Thanks

People will throw their 2cents in, but there is no constant (I guess no constant could be considered a constant) when it comes to acceptance. You hear about people with 3.8GPA's and 90%+ PCATs getting rejected while, people with 2.9's and 64 PCATs get in. Seems to me it's about more than the numbers or there wouldn't be any thing to ask. Sure, numbers will always help, but doesn't give you a free pass either.

Roll the dice and take you shot is my advice.

I am def. going to apply for next years admission cycle and hope to get in. I am def. going to have to ace the pcats. Also I was wondering how they calculate GPA in pharmCAS? do they factor in retakes? Or how does it work?

I think it depends on if your school awards - or + to your grade, I could be wrong though. Yes, the factor in retakes.

This will help more than I can......
