Ok, help me out folks...

1)my gpa from prior institution is 2.65 for 76 credits. 😱 However, in order to complete my major, graduation requirements, and BCPM, I have another 3 years of full time study. I (somehow) believe that I can pull off a 4.0 for the remainder of my undergraduate stint, but what I need to know is:

how much course-work will I need in order to balance out my prior gpa into something that's remotely competitive?

2)So I met with premed advisor today, and it was pretty obvious I am horribly lacking in social skills. My bf works a lot and I sometimes go days without having a real conversation with anyone. Not helping matters any, my lack of intellectual activity lately (having been out of school for 2 yrs) has left me mentally dull-witted. How is the premed advisor going to recommend me if I am a huge, boring dork!?? :scared:

If you take 76 credits and get a 4.0, your GPA will be a 3.3 something. So you need to double your amount of coursework to get into the competitive range.

I don't really know how to answer your second question.

Dont u have a job????? Try volunteering, it forces you to interact with people. Go to a party, become a waitress, go door to door and fake sell things... get the drift

I think people underestimate a good personality... afterall isnt that why med school swant to meet with you so they dont just accept some premed dork who lived in a cave and studied 35 hrs per day???

If your last college experience was less than a B- average, I highly doubt you have a chance at a 4.0. In fact, I'd bet the farm that you dont. Dont count on exceptional performance from now on, just prepare to work as hard as you can and turn your performance around; upward mobility is looked upon favorable.
As far as your second question? Join a few organizations (if nothing else, even a premed organization) and force yourself to interact with others. Maybe even a sorority; I think they train you how talk with men, I'm not sure. 🙂

We relocated pretty recently (CA to NYC) and I'm not working now. I was working in CA, but it was in a group home with DD adults, so even then the conversation wasn't super-titillating.

I guess I need to get started on volunteering, just wasn't sure how soon.

Hey, does anybody here know how many credits I can attempt before federal aid (grants +loans) gets cut off?

Alicia, are you serious?

Maybe you should get into counseling.

Let me define what those face symbols mean.

I find it amazingly sad that a person can be so-self depricating in their reflection of themselves.

I'm not quite sure what else to say. I hope you can recognize yourself as a better person some day. 👍 🙂

My circumstances are completely different now, I have no reason to expect the same kind of performance. I know there's no way a cumm. 4.0 would be possible, but I've had straight-A semesters before so I don't think it's unreasonable to plan on having a few more. And actually, since I'm starting at a new school, I *can* have 4.0 on at least one of my transcripts.

Three years with a 4.0 will get you into one med school or another, regardless of what you had before (provided you can explain any D's or F's).

Just take a normal course load. If you overload, it takes time away from other things that are just as important.

Hey Salty, this is quite random and probably bizarre, but your avatar has always looked like a whale to me. I just realized that it's actually a "salty squeegee". Yes, I know, I need some more sleep. 😀

I know, I could be having more fun with it.

I think I'm a fine person! Just not particularly graceful, and lamenting about it. On the plus side tho, I could be considered very honest bc what if I was just going around pretending that I'm graceful when I'm actually not!

hey, who wants lemonade?

It could be worse, it could be a whale with a giant phalic squeegee. 😉

Thank you for noticing though. I'm sick of how much salt gets thrown on my windshield during the winter time.

My car even rusts when it's warm and dry here in Ohio... sheesh. 🙄

Alicia, I sincerely doubt from your post that you are a huge, boring dork. You seem pretty articulate--just not super self-confident. You're in a new place, and since your situation is different now, you have the opportunity to really prove your academic abilities! When you go back to school this fall (or whenever), you have to go into your classes BELIEVING that you will get a all A's, no matter how hard you have to work. I know you can do it!

Focus on your goal one semester at a time. If you can manage to get close to a 4.0 for the remainder of your college coursework, that would be three consecutive years--six semesters--of outstanding academic performance! That would definitely demonstrate an upward trend or turning over a new leaf or WHATEVER to those adcoms. If you can manage a good MCAT score, that would be another point of proof to adcoms that you have the academic ability to succeed in medical school. If you're not applying to med school for two years, then you have tons of time to volunteer, do leadership/extracurriculars, build good relationships with professors, etc. And if you're living in NY now, by the time you apply to med schools you'll have residency in NY, and there are great state schools there. And besides state schools, there are a few other med schools that have lower GPA ranges that you could apply to, plus there are always DO and Caribbean schools.

Work hard, have some faith in yourself and don't give up! 👍
