So my primary app was verified earlier today, but when I went to go check the printed application it stated I am SES-EO1 disadvantaged. I checked here https://www.aamc.org/download/351766/data/amcassesdisadvantagedindicator.pdf and from what I gather I have this status because my mother received an AS, my father never finished high school and is deceased. I did not mark myself as disadvantage because I've never really considered myself as such.

How does something like this affect the application process, and is this something to address in my secondaries?

For your secondaries, I would avoid discussing it if you never considered yourself to be disadvantaged. The AAMC has their own way of assessing situations so they thought yours fit into that category. If it comes up during an interview, you can discuss it, but otherwise only discuss things YOU feel you should and feel comfortable discussing.

The SES thing is a new part of the AMCAS application that was implemented just last year. If you don't believe you're disadvantaged and you didn't fill out the disadvantaged portion of your app, then you don't need to address it in your secondaries, and I highly doubt anyone will bring it up.
