Going into M2 year. I have like one club im involved in/eboard position and im doing one summer research project/internship and other than that I have nothing else on my resume from M1. Im interested in probably anesthesia or IM. Have a 1.5yr preclinical so ive been trying to board prep with my extra time to pass and build a foundation for step 2. Was wondering if i just did some more research or volunteering starting M3 would be okay or should i try to do more now. I just dont want to not match lmao

You ask this question like it’s common for students who just completed M1 in a pandemic to have more ECs than a couple clubs and a research experience.

Chill, friend. You’re already doing more than like 80% of med students who aren’t aiming for ortho or neurosurgery.

Go look at the actual match outcomes data, see how much you need in the way of research and activities to match anesthesia or IM, then reassess how you feel.
