Ok I am in my first semester/year in Umass Boston. I am majoring in Bio and hope to go into the dental field. So far, my first semester hasn't gone according to plan. Anyway it is MID-semester and our teachers gave us our averages at the half way mark:

Biology 111: C
Chemistry 115: B
Chemistry 115 Lab: A
Math Precalculus 130: B
English 101: B+
Science Seminar: B

If my grades remain like this and are my final grades for the first semester, will I still have a good shot at dental schools? Should I withdraw/Pass+fail/retake anything? Sorry if this comes across as trolling/spamming/stupid, but I am really really nervous and want as much help on what to do as possible.

Go away and enjoy college. Your first semester isn't even over yet!! You're fine and your situation is not even that bad. Just strive for A's every semester here on out...

Don't worry, relax and play MW2 next week. I had a 2.4 GPA my first 3 semesters. You have plenty of time to make it up.

Don't even worry!!!! Hey you still have a LOT of time to make up for your grades. It took me years before I FINALLY matured as a student to know how to ace my science classes. Pace yourself on the readings daily, take notes on your readings, and ALWAYS get help when you come across materials you don't QUITE fully comprehend. Ok that's how I study later on. We all have different ways of learning so I hope you find yours REAL soon. Good luck in school!!!!

I wish I was in your boat lol. After my first year my GPA was a 1.86 and I have been busting my ass since then to bring up my GPA. I have done 42 hours since with roughly a 3.56 GPA and still trying to bring up that crappy first year. I'm sitting at a 2.97 now. Hopefully I will be able to get it up to a respectable level by the time I graduate. Thats the plan. Strive for A's and get that GPA to a competitive level.:meanie:

I think many people know what you are going are through and it sucks. Just keep doing the best you can. 3 years/ 6 semesters of 3.5+ may not get your GPA to where you want it, but it will look respectable to admissions offices. Good luck and keep trucking.

Thanks for the encouragement FutureDent. My first attempt at college was horrible(1.86 GPA after 29 hours). Not because I am a *****, but more so very immature at the time. I took a five year break from school and started back about a year ago. I have two years to go before I finish my bachelors degree and the rest of my pre-reqs for dental school. My science GPA is competitive(3.5ish). It's just the overall that looks horrible. Hopefully I can get it up to at least a 3.1 or so. We will see...
