hi so basically I’m a non traditional student. I have a degree in bio but my marks were all over the place and so my average was a mid 70. as a result I went to do. A second undergrad and thus far my aamc average for my current degree after 3 years is a 3.9. The only probleM is that my mcat is a 492 (yeah I know it’s low). I have over 8 years of research. 2 publishing’s. Co editor and senior editor of two medical books. Volunteered to teach exercise to low income adults with physical disabilities. I was philanthropy chair in my sorority. Ran my own food drives. Worked in cardiac rehab for 6 months. Am a personal trainer. Have taught computer literacy in Kenya. And that’s only some of my ECs.

I’m a Canadian student and basically I won’t get in here so I’m looking elsewhere. Right now my options are the Caribbean which honestly Worries me. Ireland. Australia and possibly the USA but there are so many schools and I don’t know which ones you should or shouldn’t apply to and wherever or not I even stand a chance.

What do you guys think?

Retake the MCAT
Yeah I’m going to. Since I wrote my first mcat 5 years ago I already went up 6 whole marks old system since I wrote it last year and that was without Having taken a science course since 2011 lol so I have a feeling I can get a 500

Your writing seems a little spastic, and is difficult to follow. Mine often is, too. In addition to improving your MCAT, make sure you have someone read through all your application materials. Definitely helped me be as concise and poignant as possible!

How are you preparing, to ensure you get an improved score - perhaps a class? How many times have you taken it before? Considering you took it "5 years ago," and also have a "492," seems like you may have two scores under your belt already.

i was writing this while going for a run haha. and no the other score got erased cuz it was the old style. i just checked a month ago. im actually a very good writer (never gotten below an 85% on a paper in uni haha) but since im out and its a blog forum i didnt go with formal writing here.

and in regards to the prepping. i think my biggest problem was that i hadn't taken a real science course in almost 6 years when i wrote it last year. i had a tutor for the mcat for them and honestly my score has improved significantly compared to my first time writing it (wasn't ready mentally). this year i took another physiology course, anatomy, biomechanics (which combines physiology and physics) and research methods. so my knowledge in mcat content is stronger now. i also have been thinking more critically due to these courses which will help me as well

What's your overall cGPA and sGPA for both degrees?

Gotcha - good to know. I hope I didn't offend - I always had great grades (even standardized test scores) in writing, but my advisor in graduate school helped me see how my writing can be convoluted sometimes.

Speaking of writing: one of my favorite bits of advice on the application trail was to have someone who 'loves you very much' to read your personal statement, to ensure it still sounds like you. While you'll likely already do that, it was still very lovely advice.

Well, you going to need to figure that out because you have to enter both transcripts on AMCAS and AACOMAS, and with that information and a new MCAT score, people here can tell if you good to apply or not, and what schools you should reach for.

Yeah my aunt who’s a dr and a grammar and English drill Sargent said it was really really well written my statement so that’s good. All I need is a higher mcat and honestly i will at least show Improvement on it

Schools usually ask for transcripts from all colleges that you have attended even if that college is international.
