Do I even have a realistic chance at med school with my grades and transcript?

    • Currently live in a competitive state that's not too friendly to its in-state residents if you know what I mean
  • Academic Profile:
    • Attended T15-T20 public university
    • Majored in a non-science but a quantitative discipline
    • Science GPA for MD schools: 3.56
    • Science GPA for DO schools: 3.74
    • Cumulative GPA: 3.81
    • MCAT: Never attempted it
    • Am missing prerequisites
  • Science & Math Grades:
    • General Chemistry 1 & Lab: A/A
    • Organic Chemistry 1 & Lab: B-/A
    • Calculus 1: B+
    • Calculus 2: B+
    • Statistics: B+
    • Human Physiology: A
    • Organic Chemistry 2: P (Spring 2020)
    • Stats & Data Science: A
  • Other Concerns:
    • Withdrew from school during Fall 2018 - had family issues, like my grandma (who was a doctor and was close to me) was dying and my parents / extended family were overwhelmed...I also admittedly had my own issues, which I will not get into
      • Went back to college during Summer 2019 and got all A/A-/P grades and one B+ for the rest of college
      • Took 15 units of CC humanities classes during my LOA and got all A's
      • Also worked 20-30 hours a week tutoring
    • I P/NP-ed all classes but one during Fall 2020
      • None of them were science classes, but could look like cherry picking?
    • Deadass only took 8 units during Spring 2021 and 4 units during Fall 2021 LMAO
    • I P/NP-ed 6 major classes (I did not major in a science) but got all A/A- in the major classes I took for a grade
  • Extracurriculars:
    • General chemistry lab assistant for a semester
    • Shadowed a GI physician - 5-10 hours
    • Various healthcare and life sciences business jobs and internships, not science focused, though
I'm mainly concerned about my weird transcript, low science GPA and my iffy grades in STEM classes. I'm much better at humanities.

When are you taking the MCAT ? Your MCAT score will determine where you can apply. If your MCAT is 500+ you would be competitive for many DO schools. If it is 508+ you could receive MD interviews. You also need another 40 hours of in person physician shadowing.

I have no current plans to take the MCAT and I'm also missing prerequisites. I'm not sure if I'm going to make the leap or not yet.

Is my science GPA too low, and does anything under "other concerns" seem particularly bad?

Your GPA is fine. None of your other concerns are a big deal. Kinda neurotic post, friend.

Bro, I got a B- in Orgo 1 and several other B+'s

Not exactly stellar
I graduated with a 3.25 and am starting at a MD school this fall. A high 3.5 is totally within the range of normal premed GPA. Chill.
