I'm in 11th grade at a Canadian high school (not in IB) and I currently have a 3.5 GPA based on my almost complete semester. My courses consist of Chemistry, Biology, Religion, and Teaching Assistant. Chemistry is my biggest worry since at mid terms it was a 77 and I was trying to raise it to an 80 before the semester ends but I didn't do so well on my last test so I'm assuming its a 76/75 currently. I have a 90 in biology, it keeps jumping between 89 and 91 but I've been doing well in the course so far so I'm not worried. My marks for the other two courses are 90 and 95. I have maths, physics, english, and music next semester but I worry that I won't be able to pull my GPA up to at least 3.7/3.8. I am trying to study abroad and I was wondering if anyone who is currently/graduated the University of Warsaw with the 6 year MD or University of Poznan 6 year MD could give me an idea if i have a chance at getting in with a GPA around 3.5/3.6? I worry that there is too much competition and I won't be able get in with an average like that.

I'd love to hear from others and hear what they found helpful or any tips/suggestions for help applying to study abroad. 🙂

1) enjoy your life and get decent grades

I believe someone on SDN that just got into a DO school was in a BA/DO program, and they lost motivation for the school, and got into a better-fit school. So planning early is good, but just relax, and just study.

High school grades often do not reflect how well you will do in university (i.e. getting straight A's in high school =/= straight A's in college, vice versa). Study hard and study smart, and you will do well in university.

With regards to going to UK for med school straight out of high school, unless you are okay with practising in UK, I would highly suggest staying in Canada for undergrad and apply to both American and Canadian med schools later on.

I think all of you don't understand the situation of the OP. He/she is applying to a 6 year BS/MD program and wonders if he has a chance since it is based on his/her highschool grades. OP, I honestly don't think anyone on this forum is qualified to answer your question so I suggest you talk to the university you are intersted in and find out the profiles of the medical students there (also since those are not US schools no one here will give you accurate advice). From what I know from my friends in 8 year BS/MD programs, they have experiences with medicine that make them unique besides the high grades and test scores.

You sure about Canada? I know that getting into medical school is very challenging in Canada, but can anyone confirm whether it is hard to practice in Canada after going abroad? I certainly dont know much about it.

My bad. I saw "University of War____" and thought it's University of Warwick in UK haha

But yes you will have near to no chance of returning to Canada to practise after the Poland med school, unless you have some connections but even then it will be difficult. The chance of IMG getting a family medicine residency in Canada is arguably lower than in the US.

Not sure about this either, but would like to know. I would assume it is more a nightmare for Canadian student. It is actually tougher for DO graduates to go back to Canada and practice if they do an AOA residency (somewhat off topic, I know). Hopefully, with the merger, this issue maybe resolved.
