Hey all!

I am a freshman undergrad looking to get into dental school after my four years here. I was just wondering if this is too early in the game to be spending time on SDN or if it is a good way to be talking about dentistry and putting myself in the mindset for what the rest of my life is going to be about.

Thanks!

get all A's freshman year and then come back after the summer for some info

No you are not. Some great advice would be to read your gen bio and gen chem books to try and take in as much info as possible. Do every problem at the end of every chapter, even the extra ones that aren't assigned. If you can't figure one out then go to your professors' office hours and ask for help. This will not only boost your grade in gen bio/chem but it will prepare you for the DAT when you take it. Also your professors will take note of how you are doing all this extra work and coming to their office hours to ask for help on problems they didn't assign. This = strong letters of recommendation.

You should also read as much as possible. Read anything you'd like. The more you read the higher you reading comprehension will be. Just some strong advice.

Meh, just don't take anything too terribly seriously. You'll be alright. Baby steps and all that.

That's the best advice yet! Thank you very much! And I had already starting doing that extra work in my bio class but I never thought to take a question to the professor so awesome idea! Oh, and I am an English major so I got the whole reading thing down🙂 This is also a good reason for me to get that extra bio practice because I won't be getting a lot of it in my major's class list and I DEFINITELY don't want to be lacking in science and wash out of dental school...

I'm taking this information to heart! Thank you very much!

Glad I could help. If you aren't a bio major then definitely do that extra work in gen bio and chem and go to your professors for help since they probably won't see you in any future bio courses.

yeaaa definitely try to hold on to stuff from gen bio/gen chem as much as possible... get over some general education/writing stuff you need to do in college so you can do other stuff later like upper division science/research.. and join a pre-dental club/society if your club has one... it shows the dental schools that you've been preparing early on & you can get some crucial info from upperclassmen..

Awesome! This is more help than I've gotten since I decided I was going into dentistry so thanks again!

Welcome Citizen!

Other very important aspects of your application that you can work on now are:

Community Service
Shadowing a dentist to gain experience or actually getting dental experience
Research

It takes time to build up your hours in these things, so if you start now your application will shine in these sections.

Also, you should study the DAT destroyer while covering your classes. You will be so prepared for the DAT when the time comes it will not even be funny!

Good Luck👍

Have fun your first year, trust me, because you'll step into the 7th layer of hell soon lol

Study hard play hard

best suggestion i can make it dont strees your fours years about getting into school, work hard and do what you can. i wasted a lot of time worrying, and now i regret it because i have no time to do anything but study. so good luck with everything. remember to have fun!

I don't think you're here to soon. Just don't freak out by the things you read. Joining sdn my junior year definately made a huge impact on my application and made me step up my game. I'm sitting real comfy with interviews right now and I thank sdn for challenging me.
