Hi I've been spending about a year researching on OT, volunteering, and taking prerequisite courses to apply for OT school. So far my overall gpa is 3.4, which is quite low compared to many other applicants, and my prerequisite gpa is about a 3.7. I still have to take Anatomy & Physiology 2, and maybe physics. I have about 250 hours of volunteering in several places. I have volunteered at a hospital in the occupational therapy department (helping with inpatient and occasional outpatient visits), volunteered at a children's occupational therapy summer camp, and volunteered at the occupational therapy dept at a children's hospital.

I live in NYC and want to apply to schools in NY that way I can stay around the area. I have not taken the GRE's which limit the number of schools I can apply to so I am thinking of applying to NYU, Columbia, SUNY Downstate, Stonybrook, and York College OT programs. Do you think I have a chance at any of these schools? Or should I wait and prepare myself more, maybe take the GREs to expand my options?

Or do you guys know of any other schools that do not require GREs, that I may be fit to apply for? Please give me some feedback! thank you very much!

You look fine all you can do is get out there and apply and stay positive! With a 3.7 the question is not really so much can I get into a school there is a huge list of schools to pick from that don't require a GRE out of such a huge list I'm sure at least ONE will take you with a 3.7 GPA it's do I have the skills to get through the program I am applying for take a look at the courses make sure you can achieve the GPA and grades they want ( look through the books at there bookstore), do they require a thesis do I know APA etc..

Advice: I'm saying this because as a MOT student I found for myself I was focused on getting into a program and I achieved that with a lower GPA than you had around a 3.5, but I didn't focus on what I could actual handle and I think if I would of looked through the courses better I possible would of picked another school with less math focus. I have a friend that has very little if any stats and another that has a lot so I could of avoided something that I know is a bit more of a weaker subject for myself. Statistics on this level are not my friend and many of the the things we do have it causing me to struggle a bit and have to push harder. I'm doing good and my grades are good and I will achieve my degree, but the point is I didn't expect so much of it and if I had looked more at what are the actual courses going to cover (just reading the name of the courses wouldn't tell you much none of mine say advanced stats they might say OT Applied Psychosocial or something but once you get into the course and start going through the books and assignments you go wait we are gonna be doing a lot of it with the assignments or in the papers) and not only at can I get into the school.
