Hey guys, I am about to start junior year and have a bit of a dilemma. I go to a top school that curves to a B-, so the summer after freshman year I took O-Chem at home and then had to retake it at my school for my major. I got As the first time I took the sequence and B-s the next time I took the sequence.

I don't understand why you had to retake, unless you are saying the credit didn't transfer to your school.

I do know that B- == B == B+, they are all the same on a 4 point scale.

I don't think you are screwed, but try to get A's in your other courses 😀

My school would never take other credits, we don't even take ivy credits for the most part, unless they are not science and I'm a Bio major.

I wish my school curved to a B-.

Don't take any more classes at your home school!

They actually have different values on the 4.0 scale, at least for my school. B- is 2.7, B is 3.0, and B+ is 3.3. I have seen different schools assign different numbered values, though, so it's not a universal standard.

Either way, OP, the grades you got are the grades you got. I don't think you're screwed, but I definitely wouldn't reccomend taking any other courses at another university unless you are sure they will transfer back over to your university.

Okay... What's the average ACT/SAT of those students? I doubt your competition is as fierce as it is here. And Organic curves to a C+ here. Bio classes curve to a B-.

I know. 🙁 I thought taking it somewhere else would help me do well at my school and I didn't know that medical schools see all classes until recently.

AMCAS recalculated your GPA

And most schools curve to C...
