Pre-Med student majoring in psych at a state university. My GPA is pretty low, and I'm a junior, and far behind in my pre-reqs

so far my pre-reqs are:
Bio 1: B
Bio 2: B
Chem 1: D (retaking now at a community college, looking like an A)

When I get back to my state uni in the fall I will be taking chem 2 and physics + other psych classes.

My GPA so far is 3.06.

Don't retake at CC if you are shooting for MD. To me eye, it seems like chem from your college was 'too hard' that you ran away to CC. Take higher chemistry class and get A

You're not screwed, but you will be if you continue at this pace. Improve your study tactics and start making As from now on.

I had to take it at a community college because of my living situation, couldn't have stayed in my universities hometown for the summer. if i make good grades in chem 2 + orgo at my university I'm not sure how they could have a problem with it.

What is a specific GPA goal/MCAT score I should be focused on at this point?

For GPA, as high as you possibly can get with the time you have left in undergrad. If you can get it to 3.5+ before you graduate, you will be in a much better position. For MCAT, it depends on if you're focusing on MD or DO, but if you can get a 32+ you'll be in a good position for both.

Just because no one has said this explicitly.....you are really pretty screwed with a 3.06...work hard and you can bounce back 🙂

I have time left, but at this moment, yes it's an uphill battle.

Why do you think you got a D and what are you planning to do to do better in chem 2?

Your GPA is quite low for a psych major, especially having not taken many pre-reqs. Perhaps there is something you need to adjust in the way you study?

Evaluate the real reasons for your desire to become a doctor of medicine, and determine if those reasons are really worth the sacrifices you'll have to make from here on out.

A poor/average MCAT, and you're not getting in anywhere.

No huge improvement in grades, and you most likely aren't getting in anywhere.

Follow around some doctors and see if you really want to do this.

You're not screwed... Just work harder and smarter from now on. You want to shoot for the highest stats possible...

If you got a D and then an A at CC - not only does that raise an eyebrow but also, your grade will still be averaged (2.5 GPA for that course)

Do your best, maybe take an upper level science (bio/chem department) and do well in it, and make sure your grades are a continual upward trend.
Can't erase the past, but you can fix it by working harder. If you really want to get that GPA up, you'll find a way.
May I recommend YouTube and Chads videos for gen chem? Might help.
'Luck!
