you have two years of college left. Just get the best grades you can, graduate, apply, see what happens.

oh yeah, and take the MCAT somewhere in there. take it once, take it right.

You have a 3.4 as a rough estimate for your GPA, and people have gotten in with less. I'm not so certain about needed to retake pre-reqs but if you have more semesters like you're last one, you're "ok". Could be much better, but it could be a lot worse.

I'd focus on why you're getting Cs in classes. Are you forming study groups? Are you going to office hours? When do you start studying for tests? You need to answer questions like these to prevent repeats of the same mistakes over and over again.

Should Indian have anything to do with it? Are they considered a minority? My advice is to get all A's from here on out. Just remember, med school will be a lot tougher then your bachelors. Getting all A's the rest of your degree will be a good test to see if you have what it takes. As for retaking courses, don't do it. AMCAS and TMDSAS will not drop your C's when calculating your gpa. They just factor in your new A as an additional course. In other words, it won't help very much. There is good news though. Your gpa is not that bad and you have plenty of time to bring it up. Do well on the MCAT (30+) and I don't see why you wouldn't be competitive.

to be fair, it is better advice than "get AIDS and write your PS about it"

It'd be 10 years before it actually starts affecting you seriously enough to write about if you're a healthy person and I don't know anyone who really has that kind of patience.

You are at a disadvantage being Indian because it is a highly competitive ethnicity with a relatively small accepted quota in each school. If you made C's in your classes, chances are you won't be making straight A's the next two years. Try your best to get your GPA to 3.6, and, if possible, in the 3.8 range. Retaking the classes won't do anything except pad your GPA a bit. Also, I take it your school is on a +/- grading system so your GPA maybe higher or lower than you have calculated it.

You should shoot for a 32+ on the MCAT to offset your low GPA. If you are an engineering major or come from a notoriously difficult school, you maybe given some mercy.

10 years is the pessimsitic view! I thought it had become 20 years or something...of course the drug cocktails aren't exactly pleasurable.

No, I mean if you're not taking any drugs, it'll start affecting your around then. Besides, no one dies strictly from AIDS, but from something else a lot mroe common, so it's not even that dramatic anyway. -_-

Relax... you're at a 3.4 right now, that in itself is not terrible. Focus on your grades for the next year or two. Realistically you can pretty easily get it to about a 3.5+ if you have solid semesters from now on. Pick a few easy classes, start researching for credit, do whatever is necessary to pad your grades.

Remember, a 3.6 with a 36 gives you a magic number of 72. Don't sulk on the 3.4, improve it.
