i recently found out that dental schools want to see if you can handle a heavy course load. i am wondering if my light course load, especially in my 3rd year could hurt my chance of acceptance. my course load is as follows:

1st year - 10 courses
2nd year - 10 courses
3rd year - 7 courses
4th year - 8 courses

do i need to have a valid reason as to why i only took 7 classes in my 3rd year? what if i don't have/can't come with a good excuse???

Do you think I am screwed?? 😱
what should i do??

I have a similar situation. My case is

1st year: 7 courses
2nd year: 7
3rd year: 8
4th year: 10

but I hopefully they will look at the trend in both course load and grades. I received All straight As in the 3rd year. And I got 6 As in the 4th year. My overall GPA is now almost 3.7. What is your GPA?

I also transferred from a local community college..So I have enough credits to graduate

Its not THAT big of a deal. Your grades are much more important than your course load. However, course load is certainly a factor, but unlike GPA, its nowhere near a make or break deal

I took some summer courses, so yea I have enough credits to graduate. I am taking a year off though. My GPA is 3.8ish

Feeling much better.. thanks for all the replies🙂

If you worked during that time, it probably wouldn't hurt to mention it.

IMO - 3.8 + job is just as impressive as a 3.8 + heavy course load w/no job.

Your best proof is trial and error. Only way you will know is if you apply and go through the process. One can learn a wealth of information by going through the application process. I wish you the best of luck.

Best combo- 3.8 + job + heavy course load.

well if they do hurt your chances in any way, at least you're still studly

in all seriousness i honestly doubt it'd be a big factor as long as you were a full-time student
