It seems as if everytime i sit down to study I manage to convince myself that before i start studying i should take a 20 minute break to just do something i enjoy.I thenI'll get on the internet and either get on SDN or go on youtube.com and before i realise it that initial 20 minutes of leisure turns into like 5hrs🙄 .Anyone else having these kind of problems?

Me too. I'm currently "studying" micro.

But first I have to check out the anesthesiology forum.

dc

oh yea i should be studying right now but i found this really good video of this kid saying his graduation speech from a med-school in california.this kid is hilarious

Hey . . . I was totally doing this too, then I bought a kitchen timer and I set it for my breaks to keep myself in line, sometimes I procrastinate a few more minutes past what I set it for but not the ridiculous time I was procrastinating in the pre-timer era. Sounds so cheesy but its working so I thought I'd share.

I have the same problem. Damn you Tivo, damn you to hell.

this is why my XBox is currently unplugged. Horrible, horrible machine. I love it so....

I sold mine before starting school. I knew that if the system and its 40 games stuck around I would either be divorced or kicked out of med school. Possibly both. I would, however, have owned everyone in Halo 2.

I've heard of hospitals that have their surgeons warm up on video games before surgery. My mom couldn't remember which hospitals though.

I've told my parents they put me at a disadvantage since we were never allowed to have video games growing up. And now I'm wasting time when I should be studying path and sucky immunopath lectures on here.

Yeah I read sumthin about our generation generally picking up certain procedures much more quickly as we were practically born with nintendo controllers in our hands. This is my excuse for playing with the Xbox360 I bought for my husband to keep him occupied while I study if his friends aren't around. I'm training. . . its not goofing off . . . its training . . .

I'm studying the gross anatomy of SDN and google news right now

Oddly enough, I find I study better when I mix in time-wasting-with-the-Internet with real studying.

If I keep up real studying for too long (i.e. 15 sustained minutes), my mind tends to wander and I end up scanning over the entire page.

Gotta mix in something to break up the monotony!

(Warning: Heeding my advice can/will most probably lead to failure!)

And how many of you guys, before you start studying, get on SDN and waste time looking around for a half hour?

I can't wait for my Halo rotation in 3rd year.

AWESOME idea. I need to try it. I can't get any studying done in my room though! What the hell. It has to be ONLY outside... must...break...addiction...to...internet. Also, I didn't think women had addictive personalities in the same way that men do? Forgive my gross stereotype, but I see a lot of female med students at the coffee shops with their laptops and they always seem to be so productive... whereas I'm probably reading the news or doing something non-school-related!

I completely do this. I also usually waste time on the internet. Occasionally, I'll roam the library and socialize, too, which is dually bad, because then I'm distracting somebody else, too! 😛
