I don't know what's wrong with me but the only time I'm interested in anatomy is a day before the exams .. but I love physiology I love all the critical thinking and logic required to understand it .. I am about average in memory ..I can remember the concept but not the diagrams or facts and numbers ... Am I right for med school ? should I drop the course ?? Plsss I need help !!!! I'm depressed

Anatomy and biochem have been my least favorite subject areas in med school by far. Most people who enjoy anatomy in my class like it because it's static which is the exact reason I dislike it.

Anatomy in Med school was fascinating to me and I enjoyed the dissection process. What I didn’t like was the inherent pressure and time crunch to learn it all- something common to all such classes. Biochem in Med school was very different from undergrad courses - much more akin to physio and I enjoyed it for that reason. It was a little tedious until we got to that point where you could draw out all the biochemical processes of metabolism on a big board and see how they all intersect. That was pretty cool.

What’s funny in retrospect is how little anatomy we were actually taught! Here I am in the final years of training and I’m still learning new things about anatomy, not to mention all the variants you encounter surgically. I actually ran into my head anatomy professor a year ago and mentioned this to him and he said he’d heard similar observations from many former students over the years.

It doesn’t mean you aren’t right for Med school but it may be a signal of what fields would ultimately be a good fit for you. People that hate anatomy would probably be less thrilled about a surgical career or radiology, but there are dozens of other paths out there. People who love physiology may find internal medicine or anesthesiology or critical care medicine appealing. Remember that you’re only a student for a brief time.

I don’t think UG class enjoyment is an indication of how good of a doctor you will be.

Yup. The only one. Everyone else is just thrilled to memorize biochemical rxns and minute anatomy

No. Gross Anatomy is a minor portion of medical school (2 month class). Of course you have to work hard and pass that class but there really isn't much gross anatomy after that unless you go into a surgical field.
Unless you become a surgeon or radiologist, for all practical purposes the anatomy you have to know is clinical anatomy which is much different from gross anatomy which is mainly memorizing and identifying structures.
In fact, most of medical school and the step exam is about physiology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology and conceptual understanding of disease processes which is much different from the memorization of gross anatomy.

Thank you guys for all the answers ... But in my country gross anatomy is for 1 whole year and there's little to no clinical anatomy .. we have to remember all relations , little notches and tubercles ,variations, etc it is so mind numbing and my friends seem to intrigued by it .. and the worst part is the exams it's all essays and long answers the more the pages you write, the higher will your marks and gross diagrams are must and your handwriting will play a deciding factor too.everthing is so subjective .. these things made me fell like a misfit

Ah I see. Yeah that sounds terrible without a clinical context.

I can't stand anatomy, it bores me to tears.

I have actually enjoyed biochem at my school so far (although I enjoyed it some extent in undergrad too). I like that fact that I don't need to need to memorize every single little detail. We essentially learn the rate-limiting portions, regulators, and their clinical significance.

I love Biochemistry and Anatomy. I concur with Quackery that Embryology and Histology are my least favorite subjects.

Well I don't think you were asked to reproduce long cycles like purine synthesis
In your exam and asked to write essays about it am I right ?

Anatomy is pretty rough, but with some hard work can be mastered. I found integrating anatomy with function or physiology helped me remember structures more easily. A great atlas like Netters can help a lot with visualizing the structures. If you have a lab, I would highly recommend watching the videos on this youtube channel (jono03) before going to lab, makes dissecting and identifying structures much easier. Another great newer resource is the book and video series by DaVinci Academy (www.dviacademy.com). The book is written in an outline format with a lot of diagrams and radiographs and the videos walk you through the book similar to pathoma for pathology.
