I just recently decided to go ahead and apply this month..it's my last chance with an Aug 2002 MCAT score. With a 25 MCAT (V-6, P-10, B-9, W-O) and 3.54 GPA-undergrad and 3.45 GPA graduate (BU M.A. program)...is it realistic to get in??? 😕 These are the schools I'm considering, WVCOM, VCOM, PCOM-main & Atlanta, and PCSOM.

I'm struggling with the essay...I have a ton of EC's and lots of research experience...in 3,000 words...what should I focus on??? I've had limited DO experience, but some family practice shadowing, free clinic volunteering, EMT, and hospital preceptorship. Should I include the reasons for choosing DO in my personal statement or save it for the secondaries??? :scared:

Any advice would help!!! Thanks!

It is not TOO late but early in the late stage 🙂. You are fine. Just try to get everything in as quickly as possible. With those scores you could have several interviews and possibly an acceptance already! You have a good chance at WVSOM and PCSOM, in my opinion. Are you in-state or out-of-state at WVSOM? You can PM me if you'd like.

I left my why osteopathic school essay for the secondary. It wasn't left out on purpose but to think of it it is a good idea. Schools do not have time to read your primary essay to send you a secondary. They will read everything once your secondary essay is in. It is up to you really but I think I made, by mistake, the right choice.

You'll be fine if you apply soon. With regards to the essay, I did write why DO on the primary application. I did not go into too much detail since I wanted to save it for the secondary.

Thanks Dr.Z! I'm getting on it tonight! 🙂

I think you should be fine. I have simular scores and expereince (lack of DO as well) and I already have an acceptance at my first choice school. Just write a killer essay! If you need help on your essay let me know.

I have tons of EC's (EMT, free clinic volunteering, physician shadowing in hospital and office) and lots of research experience, 6 yrs full-time. I want to be a family physician, with limited space, on the personal statement....what areas would you recommend focusing on??? Some people have said to concentrate on the research, others say the desire to become a physician and what led me there. Thanks!

Hey bio-chik, your app looks good and you should do well. Is there any reason you aren't applying to UMDNJ? If you have any questions about us feel free to ask or PM me. Take care,
Nate

You are not to late but be sure to get it in to aacomas as soon as possible and go ahead and have all of your transcripts forwarded NOW. That was the biggest pain when I applied because the schools did not send the transcripts for a few weeks after I filled out the forms. Shoot to have everything done by the end of the week at the latest. GOOD LUCK!!!
