Wasn't planning on applying to MD, but got my MCAT back today and it came out better than anticipated. I think I'm going to throw my hat into the ring and see what happens.

AMCAS still needs one final transcript from me, which I had sent off today. Assuming it arrives at AMCAS within 4-5 days, it'll be processed hopefully within 1.5 weeks. At that point, I'm guessing I submit my primary, which triggers verification and submission to schools.

Am I too late at this point? If schools don't get my primary until mid-late August, am I in big trouble?

Not at all, getting verified by mid-August is still decent.

Thanks for your feedback. Does my timeline sound right? Assuming they get my last transcript next week, and I submit, I should be verified within 1 month..considering they're about 30 days behind schedule right now (verifying June 20th as noted on the site).

So I'd submit my primaries end of August it's looking like..

You most likely won't be verified until September, considering you won't be ready to review until August. From AMCAS,
"AMCAS is currently processing applications that reached "Ready for Review" status on June 28, 2014. Check the Details link on the application Main Menu to check your Ready for Review date. Allow up to 6 weeks for processing."

I'm assuming you're already applying DO? I'm not familiar with AACOMAS, but I assume it's somewhat similar to AMCAS and you probably have to do minimal tweaking to make it work.

I wouldn't say you're in big trouble if you are verified in September, but it depends on a lot of factors. Apply smart.

Definitely, apply since many schools will have plenty of II available by August.

However,
if you will be applying at this stage, you need to make sure your letters of recommendation will be sent in by the time you will be verified; as a side note, you can submit your primary w/o having your LOR's sent in to AMCAS. If you won't have a problem with having your letters in, pre-write your secondaries. They're already up on most school threads, and you should finish them by the time you get verified. Good luck op!

Think I misunderstood you..

I'm "definitely" in trouble? But schools will have plenty of II available in Aug?

My letters are already loaded in to Interfolio. I'm literally waiting on this last transcript to arrive so I can submit my primary....I do have to wait for this last transcript, right?

No lol, I meant definitely as in yes you should apply! Just make sure to have everything else lined up with your LOR--which you do--and with your secondaries. I am not sure if AMCAS needs your transcripts before you submit your primary. My guess would be that they do since they verify your c/sGPA by lining up your transcripts and applying their own algorithm for determining your GPAs. In any case, call them tomorrow and see what they say.

You don't need to wait for all of your transcripts to be in to submit your primary. But either way, you will not reach "ready for review" status until that last transcript comes in. If your primary is ready, nothing wrong with submitting and getting it off your mind.

You're still fine! Apply broadly!

Is amcas really taking the full 6 weeks yo verify once transcripts are in? I'd love to have this done and apps out by mid August...

Yeah, AMCAS takes a reallyyyy long time to verify apps. Last year it wasn't uncommon for it to be more like 7 - 8 weeks verifying the app. One of the main reasons SDN encourages applying early is because of verification. Right now they're on applications that are ready by June 29th, though usually the also verify applications ready on June 30th as well. I think it will take the full 6 weeks or at the very least, 5 and a half weeks before they reach your application assuming you submit today.

Thanks for your reply.

If they're on the 30th wouldn't that put them at just 3ish weeks to verify? Maybe I'm missing something though..

Right but you won't be ready to review until August, considering it will be August next week and your final transcript hasn't been received or processed yet. So best case scenario would probably be ready to review in August week 2, then 3-4 weeks to verify will put you in September. Being verified by mid-august is not going to happen, pretty likely you won't be verified in august at all.

Is early sept going to be too late to have a viable shot?

I was verified on 9/2 in my app year 3 years ago, but it really depends on your app, the schools you apply to, and what you bring to the table. It's also been 3 years and it gets more and more competitive each year. I applied to 11 schools and got invites to 10 of them. Ultimately went to 8 interviews, accepted to 3. So sept is not too late, but it's no longer in the early realm. You need to be smart about the schools you pick. Consider creating a post in WAMC if you would like people to take a look at your school list based on your stats and ECs.

That's good to hear. I'll likely be applying to low tier programs, especially those that focus on post bacc or last 120 hour gpa moreso.

Im guessing a fair number of seats still remain open in that September time frame..
