I'm currently in the process of applying and I have been talking to several people who are already in medical school. Many of them seem concerned that I have yet to turn in my application, so much so that they are starting to doubt if I will get in. I am planning on submitting everything on Friday, but have I really screwed myself over by trying to perfect my personal statement and other portions of my app? When did you guys submit?

Most of the pre-meds I know either haven't submitted their AMCAS yet or just submitted in the last week or two...so don't freak out. I submitted mine a little over a week ago, and it hasn't been processed yet. Just get it in ASAP, because AMCAS is really busy right now and it could take a while for your application to get processed. 🙂

heh heh.

I applied to medical school last year EXTREMELY LATE!!!
(Like right before my deadlines).

I did this for a few reasons.

1) I was an August MCATer
2) I am an idiot
3) I had not met SDN yet
4) I am a horrible procrastinator (that sounds so dirty!)

Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this method and it definitely impacted my chances negatively. For example, no matter what, a late application submission means a late interview. By the time you have your late interview, many of the positions may already be filled if it is a school with rolling admissions. I will never know if some of those waitlists could have been acceptances or whether I didn't get interviews at some schools merely because I applied so late. Who knows? In any case, I still got interviews and some acceptances.

I am not encouraging anyone to apply late, but I do not consider this applying late yet. 🙂

I think he is referring to TMDSAS or the Texas Application service. True, it would have been better if you turned it in earlier. However, if you have decent stats then it shouldn't make to much of a difference, but don't wait too much longer.

You are still way ahead of those that take the august MCAT.
