I am black, but Carribean-American which definitely =/= AA.
My parents are from Martinique so I have a very French name.
Would I still count as a URM or is it only AA's that get this status?

You put down what you self-identify as. It is up to the school to decide whether they count you as URM for their admissions purposes. There is no "URM box" that you check off.

Hey listen... I am kinda stalking you right now btw 😀... but instead of worrying about your URM status, how about you focus on getting a competitive GPA, MCAT and a solid application package?

Because ultimately those will serve you better than whatever race you are. Just saying...

School hasn't started yet for me, and I was curious. Naturally, this would be the best place to ask.

If a question irks you so much, simply click another thread. Those who actually want to help, will.

Do yourself a favor...

Look at the top right hand corner of this page. There should be a box there that says "Search SDN"

Type "URM" in that box

Click on "Go"

That should give you all the answers you could ever want on this topic...and then some.

I'll leave you alone now.

He is just asking a question. You know that it is possible that he already has a great GPA, MCAT and application package, and he wants to just ask a question. Get over yourself Freesia and get a life. Stalking creep..

He is just asking a question that has been asked ad nauseaum on this forum and which usually prompts caustic and generally unproductive threads. The concept of URM is nebulous and medicals schools likely have their own definitions of what they consider URM.

He is also just asking a question on a new thread whose answer he could have gotten by doing a search or even on the other thread he created almost simultaneously.

If insulting me made you feel better, I am glad to hear that.

We've all done it. No need to get nasty.

Can't we just all get along? 🙂

Were you in the US on 4/1/2010? If so, how did you self-identify on the US Census form?

Look at the list on the AMCAS form. Check the box or boxes that apply to how you self-identify. Let the adcom take it from there. It may well vary by school and it can change over time as new members join and others leave.

You're talking to the wrong person, dude. My response to the OP might have been cheeky, but it wasn't nasty. I could do nasty but as a geeky girl with no life outside of work and school, I value the interactions I get on SDN quite highly and would prefer not to jeopardize my membership.
