I just got accepted to present a poster at the AMA MSS Joint Research Symposium in New Orleans in November. I haven't been able to find any information concerning the competitiveness of receiving an invitation. Do they accept nearly all applications, abstracts, or is it more competitive? I was wondering because money is a little tight and getting plane tickets, hotel rooms, etc. will add up. If everyone who applies is accepted, is it worth going to since it doesn't stand me apart from others in any way (under the impression that only competitive acceptances/positions/honors will help CV)? I can see how being accepted to a competitive presentation would be adventitious, I just don't know if getting invited to this particular event was competitive or not? Does anyone know or have thoughts???

Thanks!

All presentations are another point on your CV, even if it's on your schools patio. Some are obviously more prestigious than others, and those give you extra points.

I think MSS basically accepts everyone, but I could be wrong. If you're early in your career you can pull out and just do more later. If you're a 3rd year and don't have any presentations, it might be worth going to.
