Let's say a student applying for ophthalmology has a history of having an eye patch as a child and has some amblyopia in one of their eyes (best corrected VA 20/60).

Would this be an automatic rejection for programs requiring an eye exam? Would it look bad and cause the program to reconsider?

There are monocular ophthalmologists. Ask your residency director.
