I think medical schools should push to form a separate AMCAS company, an AMCAS 2 if you will, in addition to the existing AMCAS division. The basic application procedure would be identical and standardized, gathering all the information medical schools want. The only difference would be quality of service.
Both AMCAS companies would be held accountable to students by how efficiently they process applications and provide technical support. If one company began to slack off, then students would flock to the other company. Perhaps even the cost of application would decrease because of productivity gains. Other benefits, etc.
