I will be applying next cycle and I noticed that the AMCAS 2006 login is already up (I wasn't aware that it would be up this early). Is this for 2006 starting classes or can I already start filling out my information as a candidate for 2007 starting classes already? Everyone says that starting early is great advice, so I figured I'd try to get on the ball right away.

You will need AMCAS 2007.. wait until May. AMCAS 2006 I think is for the current applying class.

Nimotsu is correct, you will need to fill out the AMCAS 2007. If you are really gung ho about starting to think about your answers, you could always sign up for the AMCAS 2006, print out the application and start thinking about your PS, ECs, etc.

If I remember correctly, the application will open up on June 1 for the next application cycle.

Ah, that's right. I think I've blocked much of the process from my memory  Thanks!

Bleh, the application process is horrible.

I wish I could block it out, but it haunts my dreams nightly.

You are way early to start filling out AMCAS. But what you can do now if you want to get a head start is the following:

1) Obtain copies of your transcripts from every school you've attended post-secondary. This includes community colleges where you were dual-enrolled, graduate schools, and of course your major undergrad institution.

2) Start writing your personal statement. In general, you want to explain why you are applying to med school/want to be a physician.

3) Ask your professors, mentors, and bosses for letters of recommendation NOW. Give these people a copy of your PS if you have it, and a CV with your activities, awards/accomplishments, and employment history. Open an account with Interfolio, or communicate with your pre-med committee to find out where letters should be sent and what procedure to follow to have them sent out later this summer.

If you do those three things, you will be very well prepared come May. Best of luck to you w/ your apps. :luck:
