What does it mean to "upgrade" your AMCAS account?

Do you mean "update"? If you change something, like your schools, you have to update that info and certify everything again.

You can upgrade your AMCAS account for $36.00. The only real difference is you get to send your application to one additional school complimentary. There is a limited number of times you can upgrade, but each upgrade is only $36.

Are you referring to your AAMC account? AAMC accounts automatically "upgrade" into a medical student account when you matriculate. This gives you access to various things including some information about specialties with their median pay and such, and also the MedLoans calculator to help you manage and plan for your loans.
