I am not sure if I qualify for the disadvantaged status on the amcas application. My parents have low income, but with academic scholarships, grants, and student loans, have still had to contributed to over 50% of my college education. They are also paying for my younger brothers college education as well.

Is it advantagous to be disadvantaged?

Do you believe that you have faced any hardships from birth to the present that interfered with your educational pursuits?

The answer to this quesiton can be many things; however, based on the types of questions asked re: parental income, fed/state assistance, and work experience prior to 18, suggests that low-income is considered a hardship associated with other social factors.

If you think your family's socio-economic status interfered with your educational pursuits, then go ahead and claim disadvantaged.

This is a commonly debated topic, try doing a search.
