Hi everybody,

I was hoping to get some input re: describing my research experience as an undergraduate on my application. My research was the EC to which I devoted the most time, and I hope to emphasize that in the work/activities section. I received a couple of research fellowships and am an author on one publication; I worked in the same lab for 2.5 years. My question: should I give each fellowship/publication its own section on the application? I don't want it to appear as though I am grasping at straws to fill out all 15 spots, but I don't want these accomplishments to be overlooked, either, as the rest of my EC's are pretty average. I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks!

At the minimum, you would probably list your activities under Research and Publications (if it appeared in a peer-reviewed journal and is PubMed searchable) and list your fellowships under Awards and Honors all together. If one of the fellowships was particularly prestigious/came with a high financial award, it might arguably be listed on its own, rather than grouped, if you had a lot to say about it. Alternatively, if you worked on multiple distinct projects over the years, increasing in responsibility, you could list each project under a separate Reseach designation. And as another alternative, if you choose to list multiple research projects, the associated fellowship could be mentioned in the same space rather than under Honors and Awards, so as to link them better in the minds of readers.

So understand from this that there are multiple ways to list the Experience, none of which is the only "right" way.
