AMCAS application submissions is being delayed until Monday, June 10 at 9:30 a.m

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm just going to choose all of them. What's the benefit of just picking one?

Also, just to make sure. They won't even look at my primary before by MCAT score is up right. But I will get sent a secondary (except for a very select few).

I've heard it's safer to pick one school until the MCAT score is released, just for the sake of not choosing out-of-reach schools (in case the MCAT score doesn't turn out good enough). And yes, apparently schools won't touch an app if the MCAT score isn't ready.
I might just choose all the schools before submitting though, so I can start working on secondaries. Then once the scores are ready, i'll be all set.

Updating your application will not delay the processing of your application. Deadlines may differ for different program types. There is a fee for electing to apply to additional medical schools.

Is this fee additional to the 35$ per school? So why would you only add 1 school initially if you are going to have to pay more to add others?

No, this is no additional fee for adding more schools after the application has been verified, so there is no cost to the strategy of having an application be verified with only one school selected until the MCAT score is available.

Yea I'm not sure yet either to be honest. Are secondaries sent to us from the schools we choose even if the MCAT score isn't yet uploaded?

WAIT WHAT???? Why doesn't everyone do this then?

Im pretty sure when they say fee they mean the baseline $165 or something. You pay that once and that you'll add the $30 for each school added. It costs the same regardless of when you add all the schools. Otherwise, yeah everyone would do that. Haha. I was confused about the last few posts at first too.

Yup, some schools send secondaries even before the MCAT score is up. Others send out rejections pre-secondary (mostly those that screen for gpa or MCAT cut-offs)

Wait, so you have to pay the $165 each time you add new schools?

no.

You pay $165 when you submit AMCAS for the first time with one school. Anytime you add on schools, whether it's with the initial application or later on, each school is $33 or $35 or whatever it is now. There's no penalty for waiting to submit to schools, you pay the same either way.

Got it thanks. So if I take the MCAT on July. My app (Primary + Secondary) will only be looked at in August right. They won't look at my primary without an MCAT?

Correct, this is how I have come to understand it 🙂

EDIT: oops sorry, looks like someone already answered this. Well there you have it then!
