Hey everybody,

I just realized that I made several errors regarding my coursework on my already submitted AMCAS application and these same mistakes were repeated across application years. In all of my physics courses there was a lab section attached, however I did not designate this on my AMCAS application under the prompt where it asks if the course comes with a lab section. Also I had a beginning biology course that had a demonstration section, should I have indicated that course had a lab as well? I am planning on submitting my secondaries over the course of this next week, should I contact each admissions office by phone, e-mail, or both? Will this affect their overall impression of my app?

I would not do anything before your primary is verified, especially submit secondaries. What's the point? Schools won't look at it. You're better off waiting for verification, submitting an academic change request, and then submitting your secondaries when everything else is squared away.

I am sorry I forgot mention my primary was already verified 5 days ago, my mistake.
Other questions: Is a demonstration section equivalent to a lab section?
Do academic change requests take longer than the stated 5 working days reported by AMCAS?

Ah.

Well, forget my earlier advice. I'm not even sure if an academic request change will fix the lab designation, but you can certainly try (and I recommend you do). You'll just have to explain what you want AMCAS to do. My request took 1 day to complete, but that was weeks ago, so who knows how long it'll take now. No longer than a week from what I can imagine.

I've never heard of a demonstration. Is that the same thing as recitation? If so, then no, it's not a lab. Did you dissect anything or was it described anywhere in the syllabus as being "Bio Lab"?

Submit your secondaries now and just explain your situation if the school has an "additional information" essay component. Some schools require you to list your pre-reqs so you can explain the lab thing there. I don't know what else to tell you.

That's actually how I caught the mistake. Each of the courses have a listed laboratory component in the course description. For example

1. Evolution, Ecology, and Biodiversity. (5)
Lec-
ture, three hours; laboratory, two hours; one field trip.
Introduction to principles and mechanisms of evolu-
tion by natural selection; population, behavioral, and
community ecology; and biodiversity, including major
taxa and their evolutionary, ecological, and physiolog-
ical relationships. P/NP or letter grading

Anyway I submitted the request. I will be notifying the schools that I am sending my secondaries out too of my situation and will wait for their comments on whether to submit my secondary now or later. Edit: Thanks for your help by the way, I really do appreciate it.
