AMCAS deadline changing again?!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i thought we start submitting june 5. i just looked on the web. we wont even have our scores by then.

i dont get it? iam taking my mcat (1st time) in august, do i still need to do the amcas forms by the 5th? if i submit the amcas by then will they still send my august score to schools i want?

I would read the AMCAS site again. The first day to submit your application is in June. The latest is usually in Nov.

So let me get this right, i take the mcats (aug 02), then once i get my score i can do my AMCAS application? Can't i submit the AMCAS now so once i get my score they can submit it to the schools i choose?

thx guys

You should do you application and submit it as early as possible. However, you cannot submit the application before June 5. Taking the MCAT before you submit is not required, but the info will not be sent to the schools until a score is recorded. In fact, you should send in the application several weeks before you take the test to ensure it is not too delayed.

thx a mill guys! i love this board! <img border="0" alt="[Lovey]" title="" src="graemlins/lovey.gif" />

Femtochem, do submit the AMCAS sometime in June without MCAT scores. I would say by end of June. AMCAS takes about 4-6 weeks to verify, so that will be mid-Aug. If you submit too early, you might get & have to return the secondaries right before your MCAT, & it might distract you from focusing on the MCAT. Some schools send secondaries without MCAT, some schools wait until they receive your MCAT. You should also prepare for LORs & have them ready. When you get the MCAT scores in Oct, all you need to do is send them to the schools. That's what I've been adviced from the SDNers.

P60001, I thought AMCAS still sends the app to schools without MCAT scores. I'm not sure they hold your app. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

You are correct. AMCAS does NOT hold on to your application if you took the August MCAT. It will still be sent to them without your score initially.

The only problem you will have when you submit your AMCAS really early and taking the Aug MCAT is filling out secondaries while studying. Secondaries really require a lot of time and thought.

Some schools that send secondaries to EVERYONE (ie Harvard), you will have their secondary within a week or two of SUBMITTING your app. That's right. ONCE you SUBMIT your app, AMCAS sends prelim info (name, address, and i dont know what else) to all the schools to let them know you designated them and if they have no secondary restriction, you will be flooded with secondaries while studying for the MCAT. But I bet none of them would have deadlines before the MCAT so if I were you, I would submit early and just collect the secondaries (you probably wont get too many before then anyway) and start filling them out after the MCAT unless they give you a deadline before the MCAT.

There certainly are benefits to submitting before you know your score. The downside, of course, is that you won't know what schools to apply to.
