I was working on a secondary today, filling out my "required coursework" when I noticed a pretty serious error on my AMCAS course information that my verifier seems to have missed.

My school offers pre-reqs in sequential series (I.E Phys 114, 115, 116), and apparently when I was entering my biochemistry classes, I listed one of them twice. The series is two classes long, and the first one doesn't appear in my AMCAS info.

So...now it looks like I took a class and got a 3.6, then took it again a few quarters later and got a 4.0. 😱

Crap.

Is there any way to fix this through AMCAS? Or should I call each school I applied to individually and tell them about the error?

Same thing happened to me but it makes me look like I didn't take a whole year of ochem. I was mad at myself for my typo but also really surprised that the reviewer/verifier missed it since that's their job?!?!

You can't do an academic change request thru AMCAS cause they won't fix course numbers.

At the suggestion of my advisor I have been sending an email and hard copy letter to every school that I submit a secondary to that details the correct course numbers, semesters, etc... it's easier to have it all typed out than explain over the phone I think.

I freaked out at first too but it's totally fixable. 🙂

Yeah, I really hope so but I've kinda just gotten the runaround so far..
I emailed AMCAS, and they told me they wouldn't fix course numbers, and that I had to contact schools individually. I called one of my top choices, and was told that they couldn't alter the course info from AMCAS, and that I would have to talk to them to get it fixed.😕

Seriously, just sending out certified letters and calling it good.

At the end of the day, that's all you can do.

You have to ask yourself: if the school really is so bureaucratic that they won't change a course # after you bring it to their attention promptly using the most appropriate means...and then punish you for it...do you really want to spend four years there?

Doesn't seem like a biggy. You can always explain that the AMCAS verification was incorrect as well. It's not like you were trying to lie <.<

No dice.

According to their rules, you can petition to change a grade, academic period, course classification....basically everything EXCEPT course number. And no, I wasn't given even a half-way decent reason as to why.

Kinda pissed me off: "Sorry, your seemingly common problem happens to be one of the select few that we refuse to lift a finger to help fix. You have a nice day now!".

Whatever 🙄

What do you expect? It's AMCAS. Ask them for directions to the men's room and they'll tell you how they're not allowed to provide any advice.
