Hi. This is a request for all of you people accepted to Med schools. I am trying to write my personal statement, and I wanted to know if any of you people who were accepted would be willing to share their essays. I just want to get an idea of what I should be looking for. I'm trying to be original, but I think it would still be good to get a good feel of some essays to help me get inspired. Thanks! The help would definately be appreciated.

Take out "Essays That Will Get You into Medical School" in your local library or order on amazon for like $10. The book is slightly dated but provides you with a guide on how to write the PS and has over 40 PS statements by people who got into HMS.

I'm just starting in August but I got a very good impression of the school during the interview day. How did you like your undergrad experience in Richmond?

I like the undergrad at vcu, and I had a bunch of classes on the medical campus. Its a very professional environment, and it seems like a really good medical school. You can easily find an off campus apartment. They have some really nice ones on both the academic and mcv campuses. I think you will like it a lot.

Be yourself. Don't try to write what you expect the adcom loves to hear. Try to talk about how your premed (volunteering, etc) experiences shaped you. Indicate through the essay what your personality is like. You can always tell by the way someone writes what their personality is probably like. Mention why you want to go to medical school. Mention how you think medical school will change your life. Things of that nature.

The essay will be different for everyone. Everyone will have their own structure and talk about things that are important to them. Its a real challenge to write these things. I personally would pick a time in the day when I know my creative juices are flowing (right when I wake up), and just freestyle type on the computer. From there, I sorta cut/paste good passages, and connected them with logically sound transition sentences. Writing can be so scientific.

AGAIN: Hi I am working on my PS...and I wanted to know if people who were accepted into med school would be willing to share their essays. I need some inspiration. It would be a great help. Thanks!!!! 😀

...and thats exactly what I am trying to do, thats why I am trying to get out of the mode to write something original and not what they expect. I think seeing other people's varying styles of writing will get me to come up with my own voice.

I think the best advice I got during the application process was to never just write about what I did, but how I learned from it and how it has shaped who I am. So, instead of just listing things you've done, talk about how doing those things has taught you something about the need for quality healthcare providers, showed you some trait or strength that you didn't know you had, reaffirmed your conviction for entering the field, etc. Hope that helps! Good luck!

bumpety bump.

sorry but so many threads so fast, so once again need this back at the top.
