Background Info:
I'm 3/4 Lebanese 1/4 French.
I speak fluent Arabic / French and English (of course).
I'm definitely Middle Eastern / Arab even though I look white.

Problem:
Theres no "Middle Eastern" or "Arab" section under Ethnicity (I'm fairly certain).
If I put Other then Middle Easter, is that accurate? And will it help?
OR would I put Caucasian?

Underlying Factors:
I know, especially in medicine, that diversity is good and all, but in the times we live in today, would it be better if I just put Caucasian like most people, or should I represent who I really am and chose Other Arab/Middle Eastern?

Don't medical schools want diversity? Or does that term only apply to Black/Asian/Hispanic etc...

Any feedback is welcome.

I don't know if middle eastern is a "desirable ethnicity" if I had to pick I would say it isn't... but that's just me making up stuff but I don't think it is harmful in any way to put it down. What is helpful is the fact that you are tri-lingual, make sure that gets into your app however you can

I belive Middle Easterns fall under the category of Caucasian.

Yes, they do want diversity which is a term that can apply to many things (race, ethnicity, georgraphic area ect). Middle Easterns, however, do not fall under the category of under-represented minorities, which are the target groups to increase their representation in medicine. So it's not going to help you much, but it won't hurt you.

I agree with the above poster that you should put your langauge skills down. Arabic is a valuable language to know in some areas.

Alright, that sounds good yeah. I'll put down Caucasian but I'll try to make it clear that I am diverse in the numerous ways (languages, living all over etc). Just to at least make me stand out in the Caucasian group. Thanks!

Hey SamyRamadan,

I'm Arabic too (Lebanese, Palestinian) and I'm fairly certain that we're considered to be Caucasian. However, I don't think you should just leave that out of your application. If anything, it would make you stick out from the crowd. I'm not completely sure, but I don't think Middle Easterns are NOT underrepresented in medicine.. according to what that other person said earlier.. -.- anyway, you should be proud of who you are 🙂

bonne chance avec tous vos tentatives! et oui.. je parle francais aussi, lol.
