I know I can't submit my AMCAS, although complete, until June 1st or so...does that also mean I can't get my school to send them the LORs and evaluation packet til then?

In other words, do the schools open a file for you only when they get the AMCAS? I'm afraid of having my LORs sent only for them to be trashed. Thanks

Usually the schools request you to send the LORs with the secondaries. If you send the LORs to your schools now, they might get lost.

I would wait on the LORs for now. There are usually not required till the secondaries so there is no rush at this point and they won't be looked at until the secondary is complete. Also my memory is a bit fuzzy but I believe you need your AMCAS ID # and you don't get it till you submit.

LORs are NOT sent to AMCAS they are only sent once a school invites you to fill out a secondary. Secondaries will not roll in UNTIL your AMCAS has been screened and submitted to the schools you selected.

So when do students usually start filing out/writing secondaries? This summer? August?

winner!!
yeah listen to efex...you dont send LORs to AMCAS...they will just trash em.
just make sure the letter service at your school has all you letters in order and you are ready to send them out when the schools ask for them in about 2 months.

Ya thanks alot. I actually knew about the LORs not going to AMCAS. I really meant that I wanted to have them sent to the respective schools. Thanks for the concern/comment though 👍

Followup question: So my school has the packet all set up. Say I have 15 -20 schools I'm applying to, do I wait for each individual secondary and then have my school send the LORs one by one? Instead, can I wait let say a week after AMCAS certification/submission (or perhaps after I get my first secondary) and then have my school send the whole thing out to all the schools on the list? Thanks again.

The way it worked for me is that I gave my school the list of all the schools I applied to and they took care of the rest. I presume they sent them all at about the same time. Check with your pre-med advisors to see how your school does it.

Secondaries for me came around July so they can pile up fast IF you submit AMCAS early...as time goes by secondaries take longer to filter through as the schools are getting more AMCAS and possibly even some secondaries from those that are returning them fast. I guess that you *could* have LOR's sent to schools as a bunch BUT some schools may not invite you to fill out a secondary...although these are in the minority. I would just wait until the schools sends you a secondary to submit LOR's because if you mass send them w/o having been asked your stuff could get poopooh canned....
