Ok...I need help figuring out how AMCAS GPA is calculated when you do a retake. Sorry I know this question has been answered many times and I know they average the 2 grades but I still don't get what that means. I retook a math course that I got a C in and then got an A. The class is 5 credits now would both grades be used or only 1 grade (the averaged grade)? When I was calculating my GPA I just used 1 grade which was a B (15/5). The way I understood it I will report both grades but they will only use 1 for my GPA, correct??

They will both be factored in like any other two classes would be. AMCAS treats a retake as a separate course. If you retook a 5 credit class and got a C and an A, you'd have 5 credits of "C" and five credits of "A".

For the DO application, retakes are counted in lieu of the previous grade. You would have 5 credits of "A".
